Plastic Engraving

Plastic Engraving

Ehren-Haus Industries uses advanced CNC, rotary, and laser engraving techniques to offer custom plastic product engraving fulfillment to its clients from various industries. Being one of the most prominent plastic contract manufacturers, we offer these services for marking names, logos, and specific details on manufactured products.

What is Plastic Engraving?

Plastic engraving is one of the post-production techniques used by plastic contract manufacturers. Traditionally, the technique of engraving was introduced by using a device called a pantograph. It was then limited to flat surface engraving on metallic or non-metallic surfaces. However, advancements in technology created modern methods of engraving such as laser engraving and rotary engraving.

What Sets Ehren-Haus Industries, Inc. Apart?

To ensure the quality and durability of engraved text or graphics on the products, we pay attention to surface preparations, material properties, and the appropriate selection of engraving methods and tools. Having more than 35 years of experience in plastic fabrication and CNC plastic machining services and a well-equipped facility with state-of-the-art equipment, we offer high-quality CNC, rotary, and laser engraving on plastic to manufacture plastic products like engraved plastic tags, engraved labels, engraved plastic signs, flex boards just name a few.

What is Our Process?

We accept designs in IGS, CAD, and DXF formats. The designs are analyzed and discussed with the client for clarity. Any design changes are suggested in the initial stages. The prototype building begins after seeking their approval.

Types of Engraving Methods Offered by Ehren-Haus Industries, Inc.

The following are the plastic surface engraving methods we offer as a part of our custom engraving services.

    Laser Engraving

Laser engraving is engraving with a beam of the laser. Laser engraving is a contactless engraving technique. In this, a beam of laser light is directed on the plastic surface to generate heat at the spot of contact. The generated heat causes the plastic material to either evaporate or melt depending on the chemical properties of the plastic. The evaporation or melting of the plastic layer causes the engraving effect on the surface. We employ CO2-free laser engraving techniques. Since CO2-impacted laser beams can cause health hazards to operators, and chlorine-doped plastics may form hazardous byproducts on laser engraving, we prefer CO2-free laser engraving for non-chlorinated plastic materials. We utilize this technique for engraving products made from acrylic, styrene, Kevlar, etc. We can efficiently engrave thermoformed, vacuum-formed, and casted components with this engraving technique.

    Rotary Engraving

Rotary engraving is a mechanical surface treatment that involves pressing and dragging the plastic surface with an engraving tip or a “drag”. We use a well-equipped rotary engraving setup that features an engraving tip made of diamond, or various grades of steel like carbide steel, hardened steel, etc. Engraving tips can be chosen based on application requirements and material compatibility. In the rotary engraving setup, the engraving tip is connected to a spindle which gives it rotary motion in order to remove a significant amount of material during engraving. However, a non-rotating diamond cutter tip called a graver can also be used for straight-line engraving. We are capable of utilizing rotary engraving on the plastics like acrylic, ABS, Plexiglass, LDPE, vinyl, PVC, etc. This method is specifically preferred for plastics with chlorine. Since this process does not change the chemical properties of plastics, it is safe for use on chlorine-doped plastics too.

    CNC Engraving

While machining parts and pieces, it is possible to program all CNC routers and machine centers to engrave the parts as a step in matching. In this method, the choice of bit and cutter as well as font and size are critical steps for success.

Ehren-Haus Industries, Inc. Engraving Fulfillment Capabilities

When it comes to engraving plastic sheets or finished products, the engraving needs to be done effectively. Often engraving on curved surfaces, thin sheets, and miniature products demand meticulous attention to detail. The chosen engraving method, dimensions, depth of penetration, font, etc, contribute to the perfection of the final results. We are capable of performing the following activities under our plastic engraving services. Once the surface preparation and font design is done, we can proceed with the actual engraving procedure. However, based on the material, and specific requirements, we opt for the selection of an appropriate engraving technique.

    Surface Preparation

Since engraving is a post-manufacturing machining process, it requires the plastic surface to be in certain conditions. The plastic surface should not have surface bumps and depressions, also the surface must be clean so the engraving stylus faces no external interruption. To achieve correct surface conditions, we analyze the product surface and clean it as a surface preparatory measure before engraving.

    Custom Font Design

Vector fonts are used for engraving. It means these fonts are designed for drawing alphabets through lines and arcs. We employ CAD software and design software like CorelDraw for custom designing the font for engraving.

    Benefits of Plastic Engraving

The significant applications of engraving are listed below.

    Customization

The process of engraving is beneficial in the customization of plastic products. For example, custom engraved plastic signs, engraved plastic tags, engraved plastic labels, etc can be used for building impact.

    Properties

The process does not alter the surface properties, physical properties, or chemical properties of any plastic product.

    Durable

It is simple and easy to perform. Engraving is waterproof, temperature sustainable, etc which enhances the durability of engraved texts, logos, etc.

    Environmental Exposure

Engraving is suitable for plastic products made for harsh environmental exposure like marine operations, military and defense operations, etc.
